The transition to a circular economy relies on detailed knowledge of the material flows that cross our territories, industries and production systems. To move from observation to action, we need to be able to quantify, locate and visualize these flows: raw materials, waste, co-products, energy, water, etc. This is precisely what Material Flow Analysis (MFA) enables.

This is precisely whatMaterial Flow Analysis (MFA) provides, a robust research-based method that is now increasingly used in circular economy, territorial resilience and ecological planning strategies.

Julien Alapetite of the TerriFlux cooperative, Jean Yves Courtonne of INRIA's STEEP laboratory and Aristide Athanassiadis of Metabolism of Cities are organizing two 3-day training courses in Grenoble, from October 28 to 30, 2025. This training alternates theoretical input, feedback and practical application on concrete cases. An additional session is also scheduled for December 2 to 4, 2025.

It is aimed at local authorities, consultancies, eco-companies, public establishments, as well as any structure involved in circular economy, waste prevention, industrial ecology or territorial transition initiatives.

Why train with AFM?

  • To identify losses and sources of mobilizable materials

  • To objectify flows and provide input for territorial diagnostics

  • To prioritize action levers: reuse, substitution, mutualization, etc.

  • To communicate visually using tools such as Sankey diagrams.

Dates: 1st session from October 28 to 30, 2025, 2nd session from December 2 to 4, 2025
Location: Grenoble
Price: 400€/day/person (reduced price for first sessions)
